Community members voiced their concern over the investigation on the death of 15-year-old Kiwane Carrington who was killed on Oct. 9 by a Champaign police officer.
“We’re not going to stop coming (to city council meetings) until we get answers,” said Brian Dolinar, Urbana resident. “Julia Rietz, the state’s attorney, has had the investigation results for two weeks, and we want to hear conclusions.”
Champaign resident Martel Miller said he was concerned that Officer Daniel Norbits, the officer whose gun went off during the shooting, was back at work.
“The investigation is still going on, and Norbits is in the police station doing clerical work even though he is supposed to be on leave,” Miller said.
Dolinar also questioned whether Norbits was working.

City Manager Steve Carter said Norbits is still on administrative leave and will remain so until the state’s attorney releases information.
“He has been in and out of the office, doing inventory work in civilian clothes and has no public contact,” Carter said. “We will evaluate the situation once all the information is released.”
Dolinar said he was concerned with the amount of time it was taking for the information to be released.
“The state’s attorney’s office has already been sitting on this for a week,” he said. “We still have no idea (what is in the investigation), and we want to know.”
