Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) is joining MTV, the Kaiser Family Foundation and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to spread the word about the Get Yourself Tested (GYT) Campaign.
“Down in Champaign, our teen awareness group, which are the high school educators, will be going to several high schools to talk about STIs,” said Beth Kanter, senior vice president of external affairs for Planned Parenthood. “They will also be hosting a screening of MTV’s Dean’s List.”
Dean’s List addresses myths about STIs and testing as it follows a college freshman who gets tested at a Planned Parenthood health center, stated the press release.
According to a press release, Illinois is at risk for sexually transmitted diseases and ranks 7th in syphilis and chlamydia cases and 11th in gonorrhea cases.
PPIL is hosting educational sessions on STDs at the University. PPIL’s Advocates for Choice group will also be hosting campus condom crawls on campus to raise awareness in STD prevention.

Kanter said they are advertising the GYT campaign through social media such as Facebook, through campus organizers and by getting out into the community.
“GYT encourages Americans under age 25 to talk with health care providers and partners about getting tested for STDs,” Kanter stated in the press release.
