MTD joins Big Broadband for improved technology
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District board has committed the MTD to the Urbana-Champaign Big Broadband Consortium.
As a part of the group, the MTD will use high-quality security cameras at bus stops and establish outdoor kiosks with LED screens, informing passengers when buses will be arriving and provide emergency alerts.
No one hurt in fire at campus’ small animal clinic
A small fire broke out at the University’s small animal clinic at 1008 W. Hazelwood Drive, Urbana, around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. The fire started in the east wing of the small animal clinic.
“No people or animals were hurt,” said Chris Beuoy, communications director with the college of Veterinary Medicine.
The fire started due to a problem with a motor in a heating unit, said Art Siegel, assistant director of the veterinary teaching hospital.

Senior in English passes away Monday in suburbs
Ryan Seramur, senior in LAS, died in the Chicago suburbs Monday evening.
According to an e-mail from Academic Advisor Claire J. Billing of the Department of English, cause of death is unknown.
A memorial service was held Tuesday night on campus, said Maureen Airsman, English department employee.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, at the Schmaedeke Funeral Home, 10701 S. Harlem in Worth, Ill. All are welcome, according to the Schmaedeke Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 p.m. until the service at 8:30 p.m.
Lollapalooza lineup announced, features Gaga
Lollapalooza, one of North America’s largest music festivals, announced its 2010 lineup. Key headliners for the Aug. 6-8 event are Lady Gaga, Green Day and Soundgarden.

University gets US grant for records security
URBANA, Ill. — The University has landed $15 million in federal stimulus money to help improve the security of electronic medical records.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offered the grant so that the campus can develop security procedures that will help build public confidence in such record keeping.
