Springtime, flowers, garden shows, craft shows and other activities like shopping can typically events that men shy away from. However, there were some brave fathers who braved the feminine stereotypes and participated in the mom’s weekend activities.
Father Ralph Colmenares is a Mom’s Weekend veteran. With a daughter who is currently a senior in architecture and a son who has previously attended Illinois he has participated in 6 Mom’s Weekends.
“We come to Dad’s weekend and we see Mom’s too, The only place I feel a little out of place is the craft show because we take 15 minutes to walk through there and they take three hours,” Colmenares said.
Colmenares enjoys the weekend because it’s a change of pace.
“It’s fun getting together with everybody and spending time with the whole family, not only my kids in college but my son to who comes with us,” Colmenares said.

Not all fathers agree with Colmenares ideas however.
Father Tim Brunier sat patiently with his daughters fiance Brian Schrempf waiting for their family to finish at the craft show. His daughter Nicole is a junior in Media.
“I’m only here to drive the car. I’m here so my wife and be here with her daughter,” Brunier said.
He felt like he did not belong in the crowd.
“We’re the only guys here this weekend,” Brunier said.
Brunier was also not a fan of the high paced energy of Mom’s Weekend.
“All the weekends are pretty chaotic and you can’t get a hotel room or anything,” Brunier said.
