University moms took over the campus bars this past weekend.
With an increase in business, campus bars catered to the influx of moms by altering drink menus and raising prices.
Josh Flahaven, general manager of The Clybourne, 706 S. Sixth St., and Firehaus, 708 S. Sixth St., said the bars housed many moms throughout the weekend and had a t-shirt giveaway for the event.
“There were plenty of moms dancing and drinking and having a good time,” Flahaven said.

The bars kept their specials the same, he said, but added a Bud Light Lime special geared towards mothers’ tastes.
Flahaven said he noticed the crowd was very polite and he didn’t have any problems with students getting too rowdy.
“I think students were on their best behavior with their moms around,” he said.
The cover price for both bars varied between $5 to $10 throughout the night, he said. He added that the bars were more busy during the day than usual, with students and their moms hanging out and having lunch.
However, the amount of people in the bars at night was typical because they reached capacity, he added.
Neil Vohra, freshman in Business, said his mom accompanied him to Firehaus and The Clybourne.
He said his mom spent over $200 on drinks for him and his friends.
Derek Athy, sophomore in LAS, attended FuBar, 306-1/2 E. Green St., with his mother Gene Athy on Saturday night.
“My favorite part of Moms Weekend is drinking and hanging out with my mom,” he said.
Derek said his fraternity rented out the back room of the bar for Moms Weekend.
His mom bought him a Guinness, he said, which he usually doesn’t purchase himself because it is more costly.
Gene enjoyed going to the bars as well, she said.
“My favorite part is spending time with my son,” she said.
Gene said the drink of choice for the duo was beer, and added that the drink prices at the bar were reasonable.
Efren McKissick, FuBar employee, said the bar saw an increase in crowd size and revenue compared to the average weekend.
However, he added crowds were smaller this year.
“I think it’s a bit slower this year than last year,” McKissick added.
He said the bar had a list of specials in honor of Moms Weekend, including different types of margaritas and martinis.
The bar, which usually has a $5 cover price on weekends, increased the fee to $10 due to the anticipated larger crowds, he said.
