Urbana felt a blow from severe thunderstorms early morning Tuesday.
The storm, beginning around 12:30 AM, caused a hackberry tree to split in half and fall on Oregan and Race Streets, said Mike Brunk, city arborist for Urbana. Brunk said the tree collapsed a power line on its way down, causing one house in the neighborhood to lose electricty. A few other tree limbs were reported to fall from trees around Urbana.
The city of Champaign reported that a few minor limbs fell from trees, said Tom Schuh, operations manager for Champaign Public Works.
Champaign County as a whole currently has 13 Ameren IP customers without electricity, according to the Ameren IP Web site.
