A body found in a pond near Interstate 74 in northern Champaign has been identified as a 19-year-old man from Champaign.
Aaron Williams was identified by his dental records. Duane Northup of the Champaign County Coroner’s Office. Northup said that drowning was the cause of death.
“There were no signs of trauma,” he added.
The Champaign Police Department received a call Wednesday at about 3:50 p.m. that a body was found facedown in a retention bond.
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Marketview Drive after a passerby reported seeing the body, according to a press release from Champaign police.

“Our men responded to the call and responded immediately, they found the body facedown in the water,” said Rene Dunn, assistant to the chief for Community Services.
The Champaign Fire Department Fire Rescue Team led the rescue efforts and used a boat to make it to the body.
The Champaign City Police and Champaign County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death, according to the release.
