In a press release, Ameren offered some safety tips for the fall, including:

– Do not approach a downed power line

– Check location of power lines before working in or near trees and on ladders

– Avoid planting trees where they may interfere with power lines

– Call the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE) at 1-800-892-0123 before planting trees or digging

– Watch out for problems with electrical cords and outlets

– Do not walk on extension cords

– Keep wires out of reach of children

– Limit the number of appliances plugged into a single outlet

– Check for frayed wires
