Urbana Farmer’s Market will invite scientists to an event called Science at the Market: Locally Grown, which takes place this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, a press release said.
Scientists from the University’s Physics Department, including Nobel Laureate Tony Leggett, will answer questions about science. This event is open to people of all ages and children are especially encouraged to attend.
“Science at the Market: Locally Grown is part of our department’s ongoing efforts to make science accessible to the general public and to get kids excited about science,” said Dr. Inga Karliner, organizer of the event, in a press release. “We’re hoping many people will come to ask questions of our world-class physicists.”
Farmer’s Market is located in the Lincoln Square Mall parking lot at the intersection of Vine and Illinois streets each Saturday morning.
According to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 America’s Best Colleges and Universities, the University’s undergraduate program in physics was ranked No. 2 in the nation. That places the University ahead of MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, and Stanford.
