The Red Cross is holding a workshop on Exploring Humanitarian Law for local teachers.
The workshop is being offered to teachers in order for them to be able to present humanitarian law into classrooms.
The training workshop will be held Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Urbana Middle School, 1201 S. Vine St. in Urbana. The workshop is free to educators.
“We’re holding the workshop because it’s a great opportunity to share this Red Cross class with area educators,” said Erin Miller, communications coordination of the American Red Cross Central Illinois Chapter.
Miller said there are 12 high school teachers currently planning to attend. The workshop is not required, but the Urbana teachers attending will receive board credit.

The class is designed to help teachers spark discussion regarding complex questions without easy answers, Miller said.
“It helps to build critical thinking skills and character by understanding rights of people and human dignity,” Miller said.
