A robbery occurred at First Midwest Bank, 812 W. Springfield Ave., today around 9:59 a.m., a police report said. Police received information that a man entered the bank and showed the teller a note that demanded money.
The suspect implied that he had a gun, but witnesses did not report seeing one. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency ad headed northbound on Prospect Avenue. No bank employees were injured.
Witnesses described the suspect as an African-American male in his mid ’40s with an average build and “scruffy” beard. He wore blue jeans or dark-colord pants, a black nylon jacket, black “rimmed” circle glasses and a black hat.
The Champaign Police Department is investigating the robbery. Updates will become available.
