The Urbana City Council will meet Monday night to discuss issues regarding the Historic Lincoln Hotel, located at 207 South Broadway Avenue.
The committee will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a vacant hotel bought and converted by a private owner, Xiao Jin Yuan.
Diane Marlin, alderman of the seventh ward, said the Historic Lincoln Hotel was an integral part of the Urbana community.
“It’s a keystone property in downtown Urbana. It will be good for business and (the) community,” Marlin said.
The proposed plan would feature a complete revamp of the 128-room hotel and conference room. This would allow for modern hotel facilities while maintaining the historical aspects.

Plans include but not limited to re-roofing to prevent water damage, and repairs of the pool and elevators.
According to Community Development Service, the Historic Lincoln Hotel, which has been vacant for almost 20 months, would deteriorate and would need to be demolished if not refurbished soon.
Brandon Bowersox, fourth ward council member, said this project would be the city council’s top priority at the upcoming meeting.
“I think the top goal of everyone is that the historic hotel gets refurbished and operated again,” Bowersox said.
The city of Urbana would help fund the property if it were to finalize the purchase and plan of the project.
Other topics on the agenda include the tax levy on homeowners, which would involve a slight tax increase for homeowners, and the Bulk Motor Fuel Tax.
The Bulk Motor Fuel Tax would make businesses, such as the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, and other bulk users pay the same tax per gallon as individuals currently do.
“It ought to apply to everybody. Busses use the street and (they) damage the street,” Marlin said.
The city council will convene 7 p.m. at 400 South Vine Street.
