9-1-1 service was restored Thursday afternoon after a third-party contractor struck underground cables, causing the disrupted service.

According to an AT&T; spokesperson, a third-party contractor was taking core samples near Illinois Street and Matthews Avenue when an auger struck the cables, causing disrupted service to customers in the area.

University Chief of Police Barbara O’Connor sent out a mass e-mail to students warning them about the 9-1-1 disruption early this morning.
