A pilot attempting to land a small, private plane crashed into the yard of an Urbana home Thursday morning.
The man, Daniel Folk, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital shortly after — where, as of 3:30 p.m., he was under “good condition.”
Brenda Rice said her husband, Steven Rice, was at home with their two dogs when the tail of the plane caught wind and came around to hit the side of their house at around 10:30 a.m.
“From what I understand, the pilot was trying to land at Frasca,” Brenda Rice said.
Rice believes the pilot was trying to land at Frasca Field, an airport of Frasca International, which manufactures flight training equipment for airlines and flight schools.

Mike Kobel, fire chief for the Eastern Prairie Fire Department, said the pilot had a “missed approach.”
“He didn’t land and was going to fly around and try again,” Kobel said. “For a reason unknown, he lost altitude and landed in a plowed field, came across the roadway and hit the (Rice) home.
“All I know is (the pilot) cut his head and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, though I can’t say to which one,” Brenda Rice said.
Steven Rice was not injured, and the damage to the Rice home was not devastating.
“There are some bricks broken and a rather large crack all the way down the side of the house. The rest of the damage is mainly my fence. About eight feet of fencing needs to be replaced,” Brenda Rice said. “The fence and landscaping is hopefully the worst of the damage.”
The damage has not yet been assessed, and the most of the plane’s remnants are still in the Rice’s yard.
A representative from the Federal Aviation Administration is currently meeting with the Rices to clear up the debris.
