This year’s Champaign City Council elections are for the positions the office of Mayor, three people to the At-Large City Council offices and one person to the office of District 5 Council for a two year term, according to Champaign City Council website.
According to the website, the municipality of the City of Champaign consists of the Mayor and eight Council Members who are elected for four year terms. The Mayor and three Council Members are elected at large while the other five Council Members are elected from the districts within the city.
The candidate for the District 5 Council Member seat is Gordy Hulten. The candidates for the 2011 election At-Large Council Members are Thomas Bruno, Deborah Frank Feinen, and Karen Foster. Finally, the 2011 Mayor candidates are Gerald Schweighart and Don Gerard, according to the Champaign City Council website.
The primary election for the Champaign City Council will be held on Feb. 22. However, Urbana’s Ward 2 Alderman election is the only one on the ballot because the At-Large Council Members are running unopposed, Foster said.
“There are not enough people for a ballot for the Council Members,” Foster said.

The candidates on the ballot for the primary election are Eric Jakobsson and Brian Dolinar.
The date for the consolidated election is scheduled for April 5.
