A $934,000 project for an eight-foot wide path and 75-by-12 foot pedestrian bridge along the west side of High Cross Road in Urbana will be voted on at the Urbana City Council’s regular meeting Monday.
While a federal grant from June 2006 from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program will cover $558,000, the remaining money will need to be funded by motor fuel tax funds and city capital replacement and improvement funds.
“(The council) didn’t quite have a consensus on that one (meeting last week), so we’ll see what will happen tomorrow night,” said Eric Jakobsson, Ward 2.
In a preliminary vote last week, the council was split 5-2.
In other business, a quarterly report will be given by the Civilian Police Review Board along with an update on the Olympian Drive and Lincoln Avenue development project.

In an ordinance related to the city’s zoning ordinance, council will vote on whether to accept or reject the changes that the zoning administrator has suggested.
Also on the table are two resolutions of protest against proposed text amendments to the Champaign County Zoning Ordinance relating to fence height and opacity and special use permits. The Urbana Plan Commission has suggested that city council not protest.
Before closing, snow removal will be discussed as some residents have had issues this winter, such as with snow piling up on their driveways. Also to be discussed is a visit from representatives from Urbana’s sister city Zomba in Malawi. Leading in that discussion will be Dennis Roberts, Ward 5, who has been one of the main people in charge of the sister city project.
