Sections of Lincoln Avenue, Springfield Avenue and Park Street may undergo resurfacing and other improvements if approved by Urbana City Council next week. The project, which gained initial support at Monday’s regular meeting, would be funded by $650,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds.
In other business, Libby Tyler, community development director and city planner, gave an update on the city’s Tax Increment Finance, or TIF, districts. Engineering on over $3 million of TIF projects will be done internally by the Public Works Engineering Division. Once the work is finished, the city will be reimbursed for the time and costs spent.
“It’s a win-win,” said city Comptroller Ron Eldridge. “We save the engineering costs in the TIF, and we’re going to use those monies to reimburse the engineering salaries to supplement our city capital improvement program.”
The resolution was sent to council with a recommendation for approval and will be voted on next week.
In order to make more permanent housing available for residents with mental health disabilities, the homeless or those living in transitional supportive housing, a reallocation of older carry-over funds is necessary. An ordinance to do so was approved without discussion.
