The Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability at the University will be hosting its third annual Naturally Illinois Expo on March 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Natural Resources Building, 607 East Peabody Drive.
The expo will feature fifty exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities that are meant to teach the public about resources and sustainable technology. Scientists will also be present that have a hand in research in the area of resources and sustainable economic development.
“[The expo] will show people in the community what it is that they are paying for with their taxes,” said William Shilts, executive director of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability. “It has been a great way for people to get to know each other and work together from the five different surveys.”
Some exhibits include, “Archeological Dig”, “Fun with Water Chemistry” and “Carbon Sequestration.”
The Expo first started in 2005 as a way to celebrate the centennial of the geological survey, which since 2008 has expanded to five surveys.
