Voting for the consolidated general election for Champaign County will take place Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The race is between the incumbent Champaign Mayor Gerald J. Schweighart and newcomer Don Gerard.
This marks the first time in 12 years Schweighart is challenged in his position as mayor of Champaign.
Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten encourages students to vote and is expecting a higher turnout specifically because of the mayoral race, which he said “is generating a little more attention.”
