Champaign’s mayoral candidates are taking different approaches on election day. On Tuesday, Don Gerard stopped at hot spots in Champaign while Jerry Schweighart prepared for the city council meeting that night.
Gerard said he has stopped at IHOP, downtown Champaign, the Quad and Esquire Lounge Tuesday to encourage the community to vote.
“It’s going to take every vote, and we are hoping that we can get more votes than the other guy,” he said.
Schweighart said a few campaign volunteers distributed flyers Tuesday and he stopped by restaurants, however, at this point, he believes fate is in the voters’ hands.
“If people haven’t made up their mind by now, I’m not going to change their mind,” he said.
