Construction to improve the streetscape along Fourth Street between Green Street and Gregory Drive will begin Wednesday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded A & R Mechanical a construction contract of $1,169,271. The project consists of improving the streetscape at the intersection, which includes storm sewers, curbs and gutter extensions, pavement, sidewalk, traffic signal modernization, roadway lighting replacement, pavement marking and landscaping.

The work will not require a complete roadway closure but a lane modification throughout the construction phase. Businesses and apartments along Fourth Street will remain open during construction. Parking may be limited along Fourth Street.
