New election cycle officially starts Tuesday
September 2, 2011
Tuesday kicks off the election season, as it marks the first day candidates from established political parties can start circulating petitions to be on the ballot.
This year, the list of established parties does not include the Green Party. According to Susan Rodgers, former treasurer for the local Green Party, the Green Party lost its status as established party because Rich Whitney, its candidate for governor, failed to get enough votes in the general election.
