A 46-year-old Rantoul woman jumped from the Neil Street Bridge over Interstate 74 around 1 p.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

I-74 Eastbound was closed for about an hour after the incident.

After jumping, the victim struck a van traveling east. She then rolled to the south side shoulder of the roadway, and no other vehicles struck the victim.

The Illinois State Police crash re-constructionist, Zone 5 Investigations and the Champaign Police Department responded to and are investigating the incident.
