An amendment to Champaign’s municipal code on garbage waste hauling was deferred back to city officials by the Champaign City Council at Tuesday night’s meeting. The bill was one of seven up for vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
The ordinance in question would have restored definitions of various terms regarding garbage waste hauling that had been repealed when this bill was last discussed. The bill would have also amended a section requiring haulers who perform curbside pickup of recyclable materials to be licensed as a commercial hauler. The vote had been previously postponed at the Dec. 13, 2011 and Jan. 3, 2012 meetings.
Meanwhile, the council approved the preliminary and final development plans of the Cove subdivision on the northeast corner of Bluegrass Lane and Pebblebrook Drive. The plans call for dividing a lot in two, with one of the sections to be used for an apartment complex. This development had been discussed in the Jan. 3 meeting.
The meeting was relatively short, with the council adjourning for closed session around 7:30 p.m.
Councilman Tom Bruno served as deputy mayor in light of Mayor Don Gerard’s absence. Gerard and councilman Paul Faraci were absent Tuesday night.
