Champaign Police arrested a suspect in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the Meijer Gas Station, 2201 N. Prospect Ave., on Friday.
At 10:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the gas station for a report of a man armed with a gun. According to the report, the suspect demanded money from the store and left with an undisclosed amount of cash and store merchandise. No one was harmed during the robbery.
A K-9 unit searched the area and found a suspect matching witness’ description in a nearby parking lot. An additional unit and the original unit began tracking the suspect, who fled from police and scaled a large fence into an apartment complex.
The officers arrested the suspect, Edward Taylor, 35, hiding in a stairwell of the complex on charges of armed robbery, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
