Green Street closure begins Monday

Champaign City Council will decide whether they want to continue funding the CommUnity Matters program during their study session on Tuesday night.

There are 201 people in Urbana who have no place to call home, according to a Regional Housing Needs Study. The study was conducted by a regional housing task force and will kick off Urbana City Council’s regular meeting on Monday.

A power outage that started Sunday afternoon affecting central Champaign was repaired within two hours of the initial outage.

Green Street will be partially closed for one week beginning Tuesday to allow workers to clean up debris that remained in Mia Za's Cafe after the fire.

The 2011 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon will host its race in a few weeks. The race draws over 20,000 people each year. Spectators will be able to watch the race and related events from 5 p.m. April 28 to noon April 30.

The National Weather Service is warning of hazardous weather for most of today and tonight in Central Illinois, with possible storms into the weekend.

Mia Za's owner Bruce Hink said that at least three break-ins have occurred during the two weeks since the Green Street fire.

Construction to improve the streetscape along Fourth Street between Green Street and Gregory Drive will begin Wednesday.
