Council to vote on construction of Urbana walkway

A $934,000 project for an eight-foot wide path and 75-by-12 foot pedestrian bridge along the west side of High Cross Road in Urbana will be voted on at the Urbana City Council’s regular meeting Monday.

After pilot Daniel Folk crashed into an Urbana home yesterday whilst landing his private plane, he was rushed to Carle Foundation Hospital. When The Daily Illini called the hospital at 9:40 a.m. today, a Carle spokesperson said "he has been treated and released."

UI’s lab contamination triggers first US cowpox infection

A University researcher came down with cowpox infection this past summer, and investigators narrowed down the cause to one possible explanation - lab contamination. This worker is the first person in the U.S. to get cowpox, which exists in labs and is most prevalent in Europe and Asia, where rats and other animals carry this infectious disease.

Last March, Provena Covenant Medical Center lost an Illinois Supreme Court case when their evidence fell short of proving that it was operating as a charity or religious institution deserving of property tax exemption. In turn, they had to pay millions of dollars back for five years of missed tax payments.
