Two weeks ago, local officials began preparing for the worst.

The type of emergency text messaging system available to University students is now being expanded into Champaign County.

The eastbound lane of Springfield Avenue between New Street and Lynn Street will be closed until 5 p.m. Friday for a storm sewer repair, according to the City of Champaign website. The eastbound traffic on Springfield Avenue will be merged into the center lane during the repair.

The first will be held at UI College of Law, 504 East Pennsylvania Avenue, Champaign, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the other at the Illini Union,1401 W. Green St., Urbana, in room 404 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
