State legislators have allotted $54,000 to help Champaign County improve communication capacity during disasters.

The Urbana-Champaign Senate met for the first time since new members were elected in March.

Champaign County Clerk Mark Shelden is holding the final canvass, in which votes are counted, from the April 7 elections.

The Urbana-Champaign Senate will hold an organizational meeting Monday to introduce new members to the Senate’s parliamentary procedures. They can address some of the University’s most pressing issues, such as: the budget, retaining faculty and the Global Campus program following the meeting.
