Last week, the Champaign-Urbana area received its first significant snowfall, marking the unofficial beginning of the winter season.

After taking a hiatus last week, Champaign City Council will convene Tuesday to discuss multiple bills which will amend the municipal code and a bill that will accept a bid for routine sanitary sewer maintenance in areas all over Champaign.

Paper windmills in hand, a group of about 15 students appeared at Monday’s regular Urbana City Council meeting in support of a University wind turbine project that has been causing controversy in the community.

The National Weather Service is reporting possible wind chills between 4 and -1 degrees in some areas of Champaign-Urbana on Monday, and the Champaign Public Works Department is preparing to keep the city safe and clean.

The program rebates the property tax difference between the overall tax rates in Urbana and Champaign to owners of new homes for a total of five years.

As a light snow fell on Saturday evening, the 10th annual Parade of Lights rode through the streets of downtown Champaign. Community members filled the streets to view decorated floats, drink hot chocolate and wait for Santa Claus to light the Christmas tree.
