Julia Reitz defeated incumbent John Piland 62 percent to 38 percent to become the Champaign County state’s attorney.

Rietz spent much of Election Night at the Brookens Administrative Center. She spoke with reporters, supporters and other politicians throughout the night. After Piland announced his concession speech, she continued to move around the room visiting with people.

“The first thing on my agenda is to meet with the people and agencies in the government and address their concerns,” Rietz said.

Rietz said the campaign has been challenging and it was difficult for her to balance her private practice with raising a daughter and spending time on the campaign trail. She said she is looking forward to a little time to relax, but will have to move quickly to close her practice before she is sworn in. Attempts to contact John Piland were unsuccessful.
