Council renews employee health plan

By Eric Chima

The Champaign City Council voted unanimously to renew city employees’ health insurance plan with Health Alliance on Tuesday.

The renewal, which will run until March 2006, will shift some employees that had previously been with Personal Care to Health Alliance. The city agreed on a profit-sharing plan with the company in which 50 percent of Health Alliance’s profits from the deal will be given back to the city.

The council also heard a presentation showing the findings of a series of meetings with Champaign residents and voted to proceed with the development of a neighborhood wellness plan based on the findings.
