City Council names road after Cpl. Moore

By Eric Chima

The Champaign City Council voted Tuesday to name a section of Kenwood Road after Cpl. Nathan Moore, a Champaign resident who was killed in action in Iraq.

The street, which will be named Honorary Cpl. Nathaniel K. Moore Road, is near Moore’s home between Springfield Avenue and John Street.

Moore was killed along with 30 other troops on Jan. 26 when his helicopter crashed near Rutbah, Iraq.

Council member Tom Bruno, who suggested the measure, said the decision was an important one for Champaign.

“Since we’ve been doing the honorary street name program, this is the first time we’ve done it for such a somber reason,” Bruno said. “It’s entirely appropriate as a community that we recognize his (Moore’s) commitment and sacrifice.”
