Green Street was closed to traffic between Sixth and Wright streets on Tuesday because Champaign city workers were completing emergency repairs to the sanitary sewer system, said Louis Braghini, Champaign engineering technician.
Sewage was backing up into a University of Illinois Foundations office on 704 Sixth St., Braghini said.
Telemarketing operations had recently moved into the Foundation office and had problems with sewage, said Jim Gobberdiel, the foundation’s director of marketing and communication.
No businesses were damaged by the backup, Braghini said.

Green Street was expected to re-open before Thursday’s morning rush hour, he said.
