FIRST ISSUE
Fuentes is concerned about the rising tuition costs for out-of-state students, who she believes add diversity to the campus, as many of them are international students. She would like to see the financial aid office become more active in helping to offset increasing student costs.
SECOND ISSUE
Fuentes would like to see facilities reserved for people in specific colleges like Engineering open up to everyone at the University.
THIRD ISSUE
Fuentes wants to see faculty diversification during the next few years and plans to support the University’s strategic plan addressing faculty diversity.
Christopher Kantas
Junior, LAS
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Christopher Kantas is a junior in LAS. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and has served as the group’s risk management chairman. He has been a member of the Illinois Student Senate for the last year, serving as co-chairman of the Committee on Student Rights.
FIRST ISSUE
Kantas wants to get students involved with tuition and funding issues. He hopes to create a Web site through which students will be able to contact their state representatives and senators to express their concerns about these issues.
SECOND ISSUE
Kantas wants to improve public transportation and safety. “As trustee, I want to try to get more resources for Safe Rides.”
THIRD ISSUE
Kantas believes students should be able to attend classes in buildings that are not crumbling. “I think that it’s important that students realize that they shouldn’t have to go to class everyday in those poor facilities.”
Mike Trojanowski
Junior, Business
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Mike Trojanowski is a junior in business. He serves as a consultant for the Office of Technical Consulting Resources, a student run consulting firm. He also served as the treasurer of Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society, the vice president of Student Investments and the sorority relations chairman for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
FIRST ISSUE
Trojanowski wants ICES forms to be mandatory for every class and to have the results for every question published.
SECOND ISSUE
He believes students deserve a quality education. He wants to achieve this by reducing tenure requirements and increasing English proficiency among professors and teaching assistants.
THIRD ISSUE
Trojanowski wants to retain Chief Illiniwek. “The removal of the Chief will cause the University to lose a lot of money, but not just from alumni donations.”
