GLBT to hold all-day campus event

The Illinois Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender College Conference is hosting a statewide coalition at the University on Saturday. An estimated 15 schools across Illinois will attend workshops, discussions and presentations during the event.

Registration is still available for students looking to participate in the event, which features speaker Rick Garcia, political director of Equality Illinois.

Paul Krugman to visit University

Paul Krugman, a columnist for the New York Times and a professor in international trade and economic at Princeton University, is visiting the University.

Krugman will speak on Monday, April 3, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in room 228 of the Natural History Building, 1301 W. Green St. The title of his talk is “The Future of Healthcare.”

A reception is planned immediately following the lecture from 6-7 p.m. in room 210 of the Illini Union.

Gift Shop opens in Main Library

The Library Friends Gift Shop, located at the Welcome Desk in the Main Library building, is opening Monday, April 3, at noon.

The shop will feature books, note cards, giveaways, library guides, and maps, and will be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 1-5 p.m., though it will be closed on Saturdays when classes are not in session.

Local churches hold “Wake the Sleeping Giant” campaign

Several area churches will provide their congregations with information about the “Wake the Sleeping Giant” campaign on Sunday, April 2.

Churches will be asked to generate 1000 tax-deductible gifts for three years, averaging $100 per gift. The resulting funds from the drive will be donated to Empty Tomb and its programs.

Empty Tomb is a Christian organization that researches church patterns on a nationwide scale but also is apart of various volunteer activities locally.

Carle holds safe tractor operation program

The Carle Center for Rural Health and Farm Safety and the University of Illinois Extension will offer the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program. The program will be held on Saturday at the Champaign County Farm Bureau Auditorium, 801 N. County Fair Dr., Champaign.

The course will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and is designed to prepare 14 and 15-year-old prospective works to safely operate farm machinery.
