A recent recall of acetaminophen pills will not affect McKinley Health Center as the center doesn’t use pills from the Perrigo Co., which manufactures the recalled pills.

“We do not stock nor have we ever dispensed any acetaminophen products from this firm,” said Dr. David Lawrance, medical director at McKinley Health Center, 1109 South Lincoln Ave., in an e-mail.

According to an Associated Press report, “11 million bottles containing varying quantities of 500-milligram acetaminophen caplets” are being recalled in stores such as Wal-Mart, CVS and Safeway. The pills are being recalled for containing metal fragments varying in size from “microdots to portions of wire one-third of an inch long,” the Food and Drug Administration said in the AP report.

The report also said the pills were contaminated when the company’s equipment began to wear down prematurely. The FDA said that those who have consumed the pills “could have minor stomach discomfort or possible cuts to the mouth and throat.”

“There have been no complaints and no reports of any harm to people who have consumed any acetaminophen from these lots, and I don’t think that anyone should be worried if they have,” Lawrance said in the e-mail.

Lawrance also said those with concerns can check if they have an affected product at http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/perrigo/perrigobatchlist.html
