Champaign releases stats on Unofficial

The numbers from Unofficial are in, and 92 people were arrested or cited for alcohol-related charges.
According to a press release from the city of Champaign, the Champaign Police Department, Illinois State Police, University police and the Parkland Department of Public Safety conducted an Operation Campus/Tap detail on Friday in an effort to curb underage drinking.
The hard numbers:
- 80 – Minors cited or arrested for possession of alcohol.
- 5 – Number of those minors in possession of alcohol under the age of 19.
- 9 – People cited or arrested for possession of alcohol on public property.
- 7 – People arrested on state criminal charges of battery, theft and trespassing.
- 2 – People transported by law enforcement agenices for alcohol poisoning.
- 8 – Illegal IDs seized.
- 1 – Years that driver’s licenses are typically suspended for alcohol-related offenses and illegal IDs.
- 12 – Citations given out each at Station 211, 211 E. Green St., and CO Daniels, 608 E. Daniel St. The two bars were tied for the most citations.
- 162 – Notices to appear issued by Champaign Police forces.
- 6 – Percent increase in citizen-initated calls for service in comparison to last year’s Unofficial.
- 23,200 – Total amount of money, in dollars, to be collected by the city for underage drinking tickets.
