Some Urbana residents suffered from a temporary power outage this morning after power lines were accidentally pulled down.

Natalie Hemmer, Ameren IP spokesperson, said that the outage was caused by a local contractor working in the area. The contractor’s machinery got into some of the power lines and pulled them down.

Hemmer said that approximately 1,200 people were affected by the outage, which occurred around 10:00 a.m. Some residents only lost power for about 15 seconds, while others lost it for more than an hour and a half.

Dispatchers began reenergizing the line around 11:30 a.m.
