PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria High School basketball coach has been indicted on charges of sexually assaulting two 15-year-old girls who played for him.
A grand jury on Tuesday indicted Andre Williams, 34, on two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Williams has been a faculty member at Peoria High School for 13 years. He is the head coach of Peoria’s girls basketball team, assistant coach of the girls track team and teaches physical education at Columbia Middle School.
Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Williams and set his bond at $100,000. He was not in custody Wednesday morning, a Peoria County Jail spokeswoman said. Williams did not immediately return a telephone call left at his home Wednesday from The Associated Press.
Williams is still a district employee but is on paid leave, said Superintendent Ken Hinton. If convicted, Williams faces up to 15 years in prison on each assault charge and up to seven years on each abuse charge.
