SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Acts ranging from country to classical attracted more than $1 million in concert ticket sales at the Illinois State Fair, officials said.

Grandstand performances at the 11-day event earned $1,052,000, pulling in a profit of about $187,000, said fair manager Amy Bliefnick.

“We had a very strong lineup this year, and when we set ticket prices, our goal is to keep it low so people can afford to come to the concerts,” Bliefnick said Wednesday. “Plus, we get admission fees, parking, food and beverages as they’re here enjoying the fair, too.”

Entertainment this year represented a variety of musical styles.

Performers included the Illinois Symphony; Daughtry, the rock band of “American Idol” finalist Chris Daughtry; and to appeal to the “tween” set – a double-bill of Corbin Bleu, who starred in Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” and Drake Bell, of Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh.”

The lineup also featured country singers Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson and country-pop group Sugarland.

The fair spent about $865,000 in artists’ fees, according to data from the Illinois Procurement Bulletin.

Costs ranged from $75,000 for Bleu and Bell to $250,000 for McBride.

Grandstand attendance was up 15 percent from last year, with a total of 44,658.
