The Third Annual National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Walk will be held on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, at West Side Park, Champaign. Participants will walk together to raise awareness about the challenges persons with brain disorders face.
Jakobsson holds meeting on state budget cuts
Rep. Naomi Jakobsson, D-Urbana, was joined by community leaders to discuss how the state budget, signed by the governor last Tuesday, will affect the Champaign-Urbana community.
According to a press release, the purpose of the conference was to urge those affected by the cuts to request a veto override in the Senate from Senate President Emil Jones. The conference was held on Wednesday at the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, 201 E. Park St., Champaign.

Busey Bank to break ground on new branch
Busey Bank will hold a ground breaking ceremony today for its new branch at The Pines, located at the corner of S. Philo and Windsor roads in Urbana. The new branch will feature five teller stations, a 24-hour walk up ATM, three drive-up teller windows, a drive-up ATM and ample parking.
“We are excited about the additional opportunities that this new branch will allow us,” said Busey Bank president Lee O’Neill.
Green St. Chipotle to offer free burritos, drinks today
Chipotle Mexican Grill, 528 E. Green St., will give away burritos and drinks on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Chipotle said in a press release that everyone is invited to “join in the festivities and take advantage of a free burrito and free soft drink.”
C-U MTD buses will not operate on Labor Day
There will be no MTD services on Monday in observance of Labor Day, announced Jan Kijowski, marketing director for the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. Normal MTD service will resume Tuesday.
