MALONE, N.Y. – A graphic goof on signs welcoming travelers has this upstate community facing an identity crisis.

That’s because the “Welcome to Malone” signs feature an image of the New England countryside, not northern New York.

Town supervisor Howard Maneely said a Vermont resident who was passing through happened to recognize the Green Mountain State’s scenery on the signs and alerted Malone officials.

Maneely said the image – a scene of red barns, rolling hills and fall foliage – was actually from a photograph taken at the Jenne Farm outside Woodstock, Vt.

NEW YORK (AP) _ An obscenity-laced video of a city councilman kicking a Norwegian interviewer out of his office has drawn a bigger audience than he’s had at City Hall.

The video of New York City Councilman James Oddo and a woman using the fake interview format made famous by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G character has been viewed more than 415,000 times since it went up on YouTube just a few days ago.

The Staten Island council member is first seen welcoming Pia Haraldson of the Norwegian comedy show “Rikets R%F8st” into his office.

Oddo has apologized.

“My language was inappropriate,” Oddo told local channel NY-1. “I don’t regret the sentiment.”
