Crews are working to restore power to the approximately 2,300 Champaign residents who found themselves without it earlier this afternoon.

Leigh Morris, a spokesman for Aremen IP, said the problem had just recently been diagnosed.

“It was caused when a cable connected to a 7,200 volt primary line burned,” he said.

While some Champaign residents are reporting short-term power restoration, Morris expects all power to be restored shortly.
