Ameren turns lights back on after Monday’s outage

By Daily Illini Staff Report

After approximately a three-hour power outage in downtown Champaign yesterday, Jan. 21, Ameren IP has assured that all services have been restored.

Leigh Morris of Ameren IP said the power outage was due to a jumper cable running from the transformer to the primary electric line burned. Once the cable was replaced power was restored around 2:30 p.m. The outage affected 2,300 Champaign residents.

Morris also said that this is not a common occurrence and that everything is back to normal now.
