ROANOKE, Va. – Lawyers for families of the victims in the Virginia Tech shootings say they have reached an $11 million settlement with the state.

The settlement is designed to avoid future lawsuits.

Lawyers Peter Grenier and Douglas Fierberg say the terms of the deal were worked out Thursday. They’re representing 21 families in the case.

The lawyers would not discuss terms until final settlement papers are drawn up.
