Ellis pleads guilty for 2007 laptop theft

Former Illini football player Jody Ellis appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to a class three felony for the March 2007 theft of a laptop.

Ellis will serve 120 days in prison and spend 30 months on probation. He will spend his time on probation in Maryland.

The robbery occurred on Unofficial St. Patrick’s day in 2007 when Ellis was found with stolen items in his vehicle.

Ellis was arrested along with former teammate Derrick McPhearson. McPhearson was also charged with felony theft on Feb. 22, and sentenced to 180 days in jail and 30 months probation.

Ellis was dismissed from the team days after the incident.
