The Champaign County Officers Electoral Board granted a continuance on the case regarding Frank Calabrese’s candidacy.

Calabrese, a senior in LAS, is running for the state representative for the 103rd district as a Republican. Champaign firefighter Pat Devaney filed an objection to Calabrese’s candidacy, saying that he was ineligible to run since the Republican Party never officially filed a certificate of organization for his campaign.

Calabrese’s counsel had already denied this, saying that the certificate had been filed and was in the mail.

During today’s hearing Devaney’s attorney Rob Uhe requested a continuance because Calabrese’s council had filed a motion for summary judgement and a response to Uhe’s brief, which had already been submitted to the committee.

Uhe said that he would like time to answer the response before continuing with the process.

“It’s a procedural issue,” said Deanna Mool, Calabrese’s legal representative and University professor.

A new hearing is scheduled for Friday, May 30 at 9:30 a.m.

“Next Friday is going to be smackdown Friday,” Calabrese said.
