Illinois escapes brunt of storms
May 27, 2008
Many areas of Illinois are bracing for prospects of more severe weather on the heels of rumbling storms that dumped hail and several inches of rain on some stretches since Sunday.
The National Weather Service says there’s been no immediate evidence of tornados having touched down the state.
But there are numerous reports of downed power lines, broken tree limbs and flash flooding, with some areas apparently swamped by as much as four inches of rainfall since Sunday.
The weather service says there’s potential of severe storms through Tuesday for much of the state.
St. Louis-based Ameren says it has about 2,600 Illinois customers without power.
