This past January to May have proven to be the third wettest on record since 1895, said State Climatologist, Jim Angel of the Illinois State Water survey, a division of the Illinois Department of National Resources.

“Many areas will likely continue to struggle with too much water in rivers and streams as well as in the fields,” Angel said.

This increase in precipitation has caused saturation of soils in many fields.

Over the next few days, increased precipitation is likely to continue across northern and central Illinois, said Angel.
